CITY of Oxford had to settle for runners-up spot in the second round of the National Arena Premier Division South League at Woking.
After 18 events, City were level on points with Thanet.
But the Kent side finished strongly to win by 15 points, even though they could not match City’s 21 wins.
Gretel Goodgame starred for Oxford with wins in the 13 & under 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle.
There were other surprise victories from Natasha Fenton, Dan Jenkins, Lachlan Middleton, Morgan Smith, Mimi Morley Iszatt, Kayden Sillah and Evie McLean.
Oxford are joint second in the overall standings, going into the third round.
2nd round team results: 1 Thanet 254pts, 2 City of Oxford 239, 3 Woking 177.
City of Oxford’s Hannah Austen, 15, Eleni Ioannou, ten, and Faaris Sharif, nine, each recorded two wins when the club hosted their second Development Meet.
Ioannou, Ella Joyce (11), Ellen Tranter (12) and Austen came first in their age group 200m IM races.
In the 100m backstroke, there were wins for Cerys Obbink (eight), Maisie Kavanagh (11) and Mai Thomas (14), while Ioannou and Amelia Brown (12) triumphed in the 200m breaststroke. Mila Burovska (11) and Austen came top in the 50m freestyle.
For the boys, top place in the 100m freestyle went to Monty Salmon, nine.
In the 50m breaststroke, Gabriel Richmond, eight, came first, along with Sharif and Thomas Johnson.
In the 50m freestyle, Sharif won, while Zachary Powell, 11, also led the field.
