OXFORD United striker Tyrone Marsh will spend the first half of the season on loan at non-league side Welling United.

The 20-year-old made just one start in all competitions for the U's last season and head coach Michael Appleton is keen to see him gain experience.

He said: "Ty is still young and this is the ideal opportunity for him to go and play regular football, score goals and show what he can do."

Marsh, who had a successful loan spell at Staines Town two seasons ago, joins up with the Wings on a youth loan until Christmas Eve, when he turns 21.

He is in line to make his debut for the Vanarama Conference side this Saturday, when Welling host AFC Telford United.

Appleton obviously feels he isn't ready for first team Football with us but at nearly 21 if he isn't ready now will he ever be.? From what I have seen of him he isn't a striker but does appear to have a footballing brain. Let's hope he comes back at Christmas ready to step up a gear. Welling are a decent team at their level so it may be a good move. Good luck Tyrone, come back bursting to show us what you have gained.

Also suggests that we are getting another striker in as we are woefully short there. Hylton, Morris & Roberts are all we have - not enough.

Interesting logic there. Also gut-wrenching reading if it applies to you (not you personally).

Was impressed with the lad early stages but lack of football even when other strikers are struggling will hurt any player. I say go play for Welling, get yourself back enjoying your football, get some goals and get back in January buzzing and scoring! Good luck fella, you have the ability, go show it, make MA find it hard not to put you in the team in jan.. All the best
