Former U’s striker Jack Midson (left) has linked up with old Oxford teammate James Constable at Skrill South champions Eastleigh

First published in Headlines

Jack Midson will be reunited with former Oxford United strike partner James Constable next season after signing for Eastleigh.

The 30-year-old, who was released by AFC Wimbledon earlier this month, signed two days after Constable made the switch to the Skrill South champions.

It brings the pair together for a second time, after they combined to good effect in the United squad which won promotion back to the Football League via the play-offs in 2010.

The Hampshire club are managed by former U’s midfielder Richard Hill, who felt a second big signing in succession showed they meant business next season.

He said: “Like James Constable, Jack is an extremely ambitious lad and, to come and play in the Conference, he needed to be convinced that we’re not going into this league just to tread water.”

What is the problem with the OM? They obviously have a fixation with former OU players instead of backing our club and promoting better relations between the club and the community, I admit the club should also do more but all week we have had them twittering on about players who decided they no longer want to be part of OU. They made the decision to go, now the Paper and fans alike should let them go, the past is just that, something that's gone. Time to move on!

What's the problem with the OM commenting on that ?!!
2 good goalscorers at Eastleigh and we are left with no strikers.
And don't anyone say Kitson and Marsh are left !
Kitson scored 4 goals all of last season and in my opinion Marsh is lightweight and not league standard.
Other teams are now signing players and we are not- probably due to to the fact that we haven't got the money to offer decent contracts !
Rant over !

Really!

What do you want them to report on...... nothing?

You think that Beano deserves no attention on the other story and now moan about reporting on some current Oxford related stories.

The club are not publishing anything, so I like most fans would rather read something than nothing. It is simple, if you do not like then do not read it.

Incidentally I think it is disgraceful that the club have not made an official statement on Beano. Most clubs make statements on players that have made a quarter of the contribution JC has given OUFC.

OM should be brave and bring this to light.

The point is that the Chairman, in his wisdom, has decided not to offer Constable what he was on last season and reading Constables comments the other day he obviously thought he should have been offered more. It's a sad state of affairs that our club cannot afford to make players similar offers to clubs in the Conference but articles like this just ridicule the club, they don't help. If the OM want to really support the club and more importantly (in my opinion) the fans then they should be promoting the club not making it look even sillier, the clubs already doing a pretty good job of that and doesn't need help to do something they have become adept at,

I really think that there is nothing wrong with OM voicing themselves and anyway they are one of the only sources available to fans to make the club know the feeling that is out there.

The club have shut their door for the summer, so they may well be oblivious to the concerns. The OM should raise the profile of some of these issues. I subscribe to Yellow player and there has been no news on there for weeks. It would be nice to know that something is happening even if they cannot say what.

If we are not careful we will be in the bottom 6 next season. Our form in the last third of the season was the worst in the league and we have retained most of the squad. Constable going means our top goalscorer has gone. Whing and Clarke with operations impacting early season. Waddock needs to bring in some good players next month otherwise come early season the crowds will be about 4,000 and the fans will be unhappy. Maybe the Chairman just wants to break even on the finances side and if so we will not be competing to get promoted.

Mr Constable was offered a decent wage based on last season's performances. There was no 'automatic' right for more. It was his choice to leave. The club is in the process of restructuring which includes youth development. We have a quality crop of young players ready to perform next season for a very capable and carefully selected manager. Stick with the club. Back the players. Back the manager. Back the board. Good times are coming but patience is required.
