However, the game was ruined as a contest by an appalling referee who wasn't up to the job. He didn't seem able to control the players and lost the plot. Not sure if there's a massive conspiracy against Hinksey as the manager thinks (paranoia) but 2 of the 3 red cards during the game were very harsh! I was stood behind the linesman when the penalty was awarded and it was clear that the Milton striker slipped, the linesman told one of the Hinksey players that he thought it wasn't a penalty but didn't tell the ref that. What makes it worse is that by all accounts (and including from the 'fouled' Milton forward who I heard telling a Hinksey fan after he was subbed) that the referee was told by players from both sides that it was a slip and not a foul but he didn't listen and sent off the big lump at the back for Hinksey. The game changed after that. It was competitive before but not dirty. Hinksey started flying into tackles and making some silly fouls. That said, the next player to get sent off didn't actually touch the player he got the second yellow for (as confirmed by the Milton manager at the time). The third red was spot on though as you can't go around kicking people. If I was the Hinksey manager, I'd be **** off with the way my players responded to the first sending off but I'd be even more angry with the shockingly bad referee who deserved whatever verbal abuse he gave him. Glad Milton won as they were the better side on the day but maybe because they had the ref onside!!!!! The FA ask for people to respect referees but to me, this was another example of how referees have no respect for clubs, players and the game if football."
