  • "Name guessing is fun...but the fact is, we have no idea.

Can't see that any of the aforementioned ex-Oxford players will get the job, though Purse would be an interesting one. Think he might be better placed for an assistant role - though it seems new manager will inherit the current crop of staff...."

Darren Purse has become the latest former Oxford United player to apply for the vacant manager's position.

The 36-year-old's CV has been sent into the club, joining ex-U's Dean Windass and David Rush, who wants to be considered for a coaching role, in the process.

Purse has his UEFA 'A' licence and is studying for a Diploma of Football Management at St George's Park in Burton.

The centre back joined Calor League Premier Division side Chesham United last month after a spell playing in Finland with IFK Mariehamn.

Purse made 72 appearances for United before moving to Birmingham City in a £700,000 deal in February 1998.
