Ex-Oxford United defender 'The Beast' hangs up his boots

Oxford Mail: Mark Creighton enjoys U’s Wembley win Mark Creighton enjoys U’s Wembley win

MARK Creighton has called time on his playing career after struggling to recover from a series of injuries.

The 32-year-old’s one full season at Oxford United coincided with their promotion from the Conference.

‘The Beast’ made 40 appearances in the 2009/10 campaign, playing 90 minutes in the play-off final victory at Wembley.

The centre back later moved to Wrexham, but after seriously injuring a knee last year, he never regained full fitness.

Wrexham boss Andy Morrell said: “He’s been a big part of our changing room, both on and off the pitch, so he’s going to be a big void to fill.”

As Bigchet says Mark gave wholehearted displays, he was never a dirty player but well into tackles with the intention of winning them, he may only have had one season with us but in our recent history it was a significant season. At times he reminded me of "big Ron" the way he was prepared to get in and have a go. Good Luck in whatever you do next Mark!

Good luck 'Beastie Boy'. Enjoyed watching you in that 1 season. Hardest centre back i've seen at Oxford since Gary Briggs. Good luck in your chosen career.
