CHRIS Wilder saluted his Oxford United players as their unbeaten away record stretched into double figures with a goalless draw at York City.

The U’s are the only team in the top six tiers of English football yet to lose a league game on their travels this season.

Saturday’s result at Bootham Crescent means they have collected a superb 22 points out of a possible 30, which has kept them among Sky Bet League Two’s front-runners all season.

Wilder is thrilled a run, which began on August 3 with a 4-1 win at Fratton Park, will go on to January.

“From day one at Portsmouth to the last away game of 2013 we are unbeaten, which is a fantastic record and one the boys can be very proud of,” he said.

“My team has shown consistency away from home from the start of the season which gives us a great opportunity going into the new year in the place where we want to be.”

United had chances to take all three points as the game opened up in the final half hour.

They found Minstermen goalkeeper Aaron McCarey in decent form, while the visitors were grateful to two vital blocks from Ryan Clarke to preserve the clean sheet.

Wilder acknowledged it was not a vintage display from his side, but the United boss remained upbeat.

Oxford Mail:

He said: “You are there to be shot at as a team at the top of the table, but the resolve and the attitude of the players was first class.

“We were nowhere near our best, I’m not going to stand here and say it was free-flowing, but still we have created chances.

“They had too many chances for my liking, late on in the game it became a little bit stretched.

“I think a draw was a fair result, I will be disappointed if people say we were lucky.”

He added: “We have hung on in there at times, which we will have to do in other games.

“There will be a few of these coming down the second part of the season, and we have got to expect it and be a little bit better.

“As I have always said, if we can’t win then don’t get beat and that’s what happened.”
