CHRIS Wilder’s spell in charge puts him into the top four on the club’s all-time manager’s list and he has no intention of stopping there.

The U’s boss is out of contract in the summer, but only this week chairman Ian Lenagan said talks over an extension were due in the new year.

Wilder has just passed Brian Horton on the list, although he would have to stay until January 2019 to overtake Arthur Turner and become the club’s longest-serving manager.

While that may be unlikely, Wilder is keen to continue with a team he has taken to the top of Sky Bet League Two.

He said: “The spirit in the camp is fantastic and we have a lot of talented players that want to do well.

“We’re in a decent place and hopefully it can continue.”

Wilder takes nothing for granted, though, in an industry where barely a week goes by without a managerial change in the Football League.

“You don’t know what’s round the corner,” he said.

“You’re never surprised what happens in football, you just get up and get on with it.

“I’m happy with the way things have panned out.

“We would have loved to have done things a little bit quicker, but you get on with the job and do it to the best of your ability.”
