Oxford United Youth dump Swans out of cup

OXFORD United Under 18s pulled off one of their finest results by winning 3-1 away to Swansea City in last night’s FA Youth Cup third-round tie at Llanelli FC.

And they did it the hard way after going behind and having goalkeeper Barney Martin stretchered off after an accidental collision in the very first minute.

He was replaced by Rory Golden and Chris Allen’s side roared back with a Josh Ashby penalty and goals from Jamie Calvin and Robbie Cundy.

Kyle Copp put Swansea ahead from a free-kick, Ashby levelling from the spot after James Roberts was upended.

Calvin added No 2 in first-half stoppage time and the Swans were then reduced to ten men when Keston Davies received his second yellow.

Cundy’s powerful header sealed a home tie against Cardiff City in the next round.

Oxford United: Martin (Golden), Clarke, F Grant, Ashby, Cundy, McCormack, Hackett, George, Roberts, Calvin (Jeacock 89), Humphreys. Subs not used: Conte, Humphries, Welch-Hayes.

Excellent result for the lads, it showed immense character especially after losing the keeper early on and going behind. Also Swansea had the added incentive of a tie against South Wales neighbours Cardiff. Now they have a home tie and can hopefully shock another Premier League outfit.. It shows the progress being made throughout this fine club of ours. The future really is looking brighter these gloomy December days. Well done to everyone concerned and all the best for Christmas. See you on Boxing Day!

Well done lads, when we need another manager for the first team look no further then Chris Allen! He should at least be given a chance I think. Someone will take him if he carries on like this.

What a brilliant result, and a great Christmas present. Well done lads!

I trust IL will be looking a Chrissie's contract too after this fine start to his career - and maybe nudging CW to add his attacking flair to a bench which has managed to get along for so long without any such thing....
