FOOTBALL: Penalty-save hero Scott rescues point for Oxford City

Oxford Mail: Mark Scott saved two penalties Mark Scott saved two penalties

GOALKEEPER Mark Scott was Oxford City’s hero in their 1-1 draw at home to Workington in Skrill North last nightHT.

He pulled off two stunning saves from the penalty spot to earn his side a point.

Workington’s Scott Allison saw a shot blocked early on, Marvin Robinson going close for City when he just failed to meet Declan Benjamin’s cross.

Neither side could get on top, but Workington had a great chance to go ahead on 25 minutes when awarded their first penalty after Adam Learoyd upended Josef Jackson.

The same player got up to see his spot-kick saved superbly by Scott.

Tom Winters’s long-range effort was collected by keeper Joel Dixon, but too many passes went astray from both sides.

City took the lead after 52 minutes. Workington’s defence failed to clear an Andy Ballard throw and the ball fell to Learoyd, whose shot took a deflection before finding the back of the net.

The visitors levelled on 64 minutes when some slack defending allowed Ben McKenna in for the equaliser.

Workington looked set to pinch the points when they were awarded a second penalty with 15 minutes remaining, Learoyd again bringing down Jackson.

This time, Ross Wilson tried his luck from the spot, but Scott pulled off another smart save.
