IT will be all change at Abingdon United when they kick-off their first season in the Uhlsport Hellenic League for six years at home to Ascot United tomorrow.

The club, with new boss Paul Noble in charge for the first time, resigned from the Southern League last season due to financial problems.

A former assistant at Didcot Town, Noble took over after the departure of Richie Bourne, and has had a busy summer recruiting virtually a complete new team following an exodus of players.

The Premier Division side, who will be coached by former Reading joint boss Mick Gooding, have received a boost after signing a sponsorship deal with GPH Systems.

Among the new faces are the ex-Didcot quartet of Chris Rackley, Cameron McNeill, Jack Bernasconi and Lewis Noble.

Lawrence and Fletcher Hoey, Tom Booker and Graham Edney return to Northcourt Road.

Scott Davis is also back at the club where he has been made captain.

Frankie Merola has joined from Abingdon Town while Danny Langford and Shawn Foster, who were at Thatcham last season, have been added to the squad.

Abingdon are without Davis and Lewis Noble (both banned), while Edney is away.

Ardley United boss Kevin Brock is targeting promotion. After strengthening over the summer, Brock feels they are ready to make the Southern League for the first time in 68 years. “We’ve been there or thereabouts in recent seasons, but just fell away at the end last time,” he said.

“Last season we dropped some silly points, so I wanted bring in players who are stronger mentally and could grind out results.”

Former Banbury United trio Jack Harding, Chris Jackson and Tommy Kinch have come in, while Ryan Brooks, who netted 41 times for Ardley in the 2011-12 campaign, is back from North Leigh.

“We’ll apply for promotion this season and it should offer a great incentive to the players to know what they could achieve if they perform well,” he added.

Ardley kick off their campaign at home to Highworth Town.

Wantage Town manager Gary Ackling believes his side can get their promotion bid off to a flying start at home to Newbury.

A big turnover over the summer has seen 14 new players recruited.

After narrowly missing out last season Ackling is confident that the Alfredian Park outfit can do it this time around.

He said: “We already have the ground grading in place and that stands for the next three years, which is a long time, but we’d like to do it as soon as possible.”

Mark James and Jimmy Deabill return, while Steve Davis is a doubt after dental work.

Keeper Lewis Noice, on loan from Eastleigh, makes his debut.

Former Oxford United forward Jamie Brooks is set to make his debut for Abingdon Town at Binfield.
