JAKE Wright is thankful Oxford United’s Emirates FA Cup tie has been switched to Sunday as he attempts to recover from a back injury.
The U’s skipper suffered a back spasm a fortnight ago during the 3-2 defeat to Barnet.
He only started doing light ball work on Tuesday and remains a doubt for the trip to Essex.
But the fixture being delayed, due to the BBC selecting the clash for their Final Score programme, came as a boost to Wright.
He said: “Definitely, it just gives me a little bit more of a chance to get right, I’m desperate to play.
“I’m doing extra sessions with the physio and stuff when I get home.”
The back problem is a recurrence of an issue Wright has had twice in the past, but if he misses Sunday it is unlikely to keep him out for much longer.
He said: “It’s not an issue, it’s just something I have to keep an eye on.”
