OXFORD’S rocky start to the season continued with losses in the Kingfisher Beer Cup and the Home Counties Premier League Red Insure Twenty20.

Following defeats in their opening two Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League games, Ian Crosby’s side were looking for a boost as they switched to cup action.

But they crashed out of the Kingfisher Beer Cup with a 101-run defeat in the second round at High Wycombe on Sunday.

And then they suffered a four-wicket reverse at Dinton in the first round of the Twenty20 competition, of which they were holders, on Tuesday.

In Sunday’s clash, High Wycombe made 194 all out in 44.2 overs after being inserted, Nick Robinson their top scorer with 87.

Spinner Francois Vainker took 5-23 in eight overs, but his side struggled with the bat.

Only Joe Porter passed 20 as Oxford were all out for 93 in 33.2 overs, James Benning and Chris Sketchley taking three wickets apiece.

Wycombe now visit Banbury in the third round on Sunday.

Oxford were held to 111-7 after being put in to bat by Dinton in their Twenty20 clash.

John Barrett hit an unbeaten 45 off 41 balls with three fours and a six, but Jamie Perkin (25) was the only other batsman to get into double figures as Faisal Ali (3-13) led the way for Dinton.

Brad Sutherland (3-12) then reduced the Division 2 West side to 0-2 by removing openers Michael Sutliff and Liam Gough for ducks.

But Kelvin Burrows hit an unbeaten 63 off 60 balls with six fours and three sixes as Dinton eased home at 115-6 with two overs to spare.

Jimmy Phillips (86) and Rob Eason (78) shared an opening stand of 180 as Horspath upset an under-strength Banbury with a 40-run home win.

Phillips smashed five sixes and six fours in his innings, while Eason hammered three sixes and seven fours as Horspath rattled up 194-4.

Banbury were then held to 154-9, despite Lloyd Sabin making 61 with three sixes and five fours as Jack Biggs took 2-14.

Horspath are now away to Shipton-under-Wychwood, who won at Thame Town in a controversial first-round clash last night.

Having already warned Thame about their slow over rate, the umpires awarded Shipton 12 penalty runs, which made their chase a formality.

Manor Parmar (57) and Pratik Patel (30) had helped Thame to 138-5, with Graham Newhook taking 3-25.

Skipper Simon Hole (41) and George Seacole (34no) ensured Shipton reached 139-8 with four balls to spare.

Henley defeated Aston Rowant by 13 runs at the Brakspear.

David Barnes and Todd Ferguson both made 21 in Henley’s 108-8.

Archie Leon top-scored with 22 in Rowant’s reply, which closed on 95-8.

2nd round draw: Shipton-under-Wychwood v Horspath, Dinton v Henley.
