Oxfordshire Under 15s, who looked to be dead and buried early on, fought back to beat Buckinghamshire by 27 runs on a slow pitch at Great Brickhill.

Batting first on a surface responsive to spin, Oxon seemed to be heading for defeat when they fell to 58-7.

However, the side’s long batting order responded well.

Luke Finch, Sasha Barras and Liam Hare batted sensibly and, with Henry Sensecall (33), helped Oxon reached 145 all out.

It looked a competitive total, and in reply, Oxfordshire got off to a great start when Sensecall took a superb diving catch second ball off Josh Megson.

Connor Williams also got in on the act with two brilliant run-outs and Bucks were in trouble at 67-4.

With Banbury’s Josh Hill (39) steadying the innings, the result was still in doubt.

But after he was superbly run out, the Oxon spinners, backed up by some magnificent fielding, ran through the Bucks tail as they were bowled out for 117.

Barras, who had a fine match, was the pick of the bowlers with 3-5.
