CRICKET-MAD Dave Dowling has arranged a charity match to raise funds for cancer care after winning his fight with the killer disease.

The 46-year-old, who lives in Greater Leys, Oxford, is back to health after undergoing surgery for bowel and colon cancer.

Now he has set up Cricket for Cancer, with the organisation set to field a team in a Twenty20 game against hosts Garsington on Sunday, September 8 (2.30pm).

He said: “I had cancer myself of the bowel and colon and I just realised that no-one in England knows enough about it.

“I love my cricket and I thought I would set up Cricket for Cancer to help.”

Dowling’s employers, Phone Room, the telephone fundraising experts, based in Garsington, have agreed to sponsor the match, which he hopes will raise around £400.

He is also keen to hear from other clubs who would like to play Cricket for Cancer in fundraising games next season.
