Reigning champions Sandford St Martin made an impressive start to the defence of their Oxfordshire Indoor League title with two convincing victories at Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre.

Martin Anson was the star with 38 not out as Sandford recovered from 41-4 in the sixth over to reach 80-4 against Oxford, for whom Jack Brooks and John Williams bowled tidily.

Oxford lost early wickets through run outs and were all out in the ninth over for 50.

Sandford dominated their next game against Oxford & Bletchingdon Nondescripts, scoring 44 from the first four overs and going on to reach a formidable 119.

Chas Taylor, after retiring at 25, came back to finish on 38 not out.

Sandford conceded only three extras as Nondies were dismissed for 62.

In the final game of the night, Oxford rattled up 100 thanks to Brooks, whose 40 included two sixes and three fours.

When Mark Stanway bowled Brooks, the ball went on to hit wicket-keeper Chris Day, who suffered a cut lip and took no further part in the game, One player short, Nondies offered little resistance and were all out for 37 in 5.4 overs.
