HANNAH England can’t wait to get her 2012 season under way tomorrow when she competes for Great Britain at the Aviva International Match in Glasgow.

The 24-year-old Oxford City athlete lines up in the 1,500m at the indoor event, fresh from altitude training in Kenya.

World silver medalist England is in a 17-strong British team to face Russia, the USA, Germany and Commonwealth Select at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall.

She said: “I’m very excited to open my 2012 season competing for Great Britain and over my best distance, 1,500m.

“I’ve had a great winter so far and my last three weeks in Kenya have been the perfect preparation for the year ahead.”

Joining England in the British team are world 5,000m champion Mo Farah, who will compete over 1,500m and sprint hurdler Andy Turner, who won world bronze last year.

England added: “I’m really looking forward to the indoor season. Although it hasn’t been that long since I last competed, it’s always good to get back on the track.

“2011 was a really positive year for me and I’m already looking to measure my fitness against the competition after my initial winter training period.

“I haven’t competed in Glasgow since 2005 so it will be great to get back there for the Aviva International Match.

“I really love competing in team events.

“Athletics can be a lonely sport sometimes, so it’s brilliant to race at meets where you have your team’s support – it really echoes the feel of a major championsh-ips.”

UK Athletics head coach Charles Van Commenee said: “Those athletes competing in Glasgow as part of their 2012 build-up will be facing world class opposition and it will be interesting to see how they perform this weekend and throughout the indoor season.”

England’s race is seventh on the bill and will be shown on BBC 1 at around 2.40pm.
