OXFORD City duo Nathan Douglas and Hannah England have missed out on the Great Britain team for this summer’s Rio Olympics.

British Athletics announced their 80-strong contingent this afternoon, with hurdler Lawrence Clarke, from Christmas Common, near Watlington, confirmed on the plane.

Triple jumper, Douglas, had met the Olympic standard of 16.85m once, but after winning the British Championships last month he needed to jump it a second time to ensure direct selection.

However, he was unable to do so at the European Championships, in Amsterdam, last week and his fate was left in the hands of selectors, who chose not to take any triple jumpers to the Games, which begin on August 5.

Middle-distance runner, England, was unable to run the standard of 4mins 7secs for the 1,500m.

In her last attempt to make the mark at Kortrijk, in Belgium, last weekend she was 0.78 adrift.

Laura Muie and Laura Weightman had already qualified, but with no other British athlete running the required time, it was always likely the third place would be left unfilled.

Clarke, who trains in Paris, France, had already ran under the 110m hurdles qualifying time of 13.47secs at least twice ahead of the British Championships, in Birmingham, last month.

And the 26-year-old finished second in the final to book his spot for Rio, which was confirmed today.
