A MUCH-improved second half saw Witney defeat Newbury Blues 19-7 at Hailey Road.
Witney conceded a series of early penalties, with prop Alan Richens sin-binned on seven minutes.
Newbury took a deserved lead with a converted try on 20 minutes, but they wasted an overlap to score another.
Witney came back into the game, led by lock Marc Copperwheat (left), hooker Sam Collins and fly half Henry Lamb.
The hosts came out firing for the second half, with Copperwheat soon storming over and Lamb converting.
Witney survived a Newbury penalty miss before scrum half Gareth Campbell touched down following a neat kick ahead.
The hosts’ set-piece dominance increased and they sealed the win when wing James Monks finished off a great move on 74 minutes, Lamb converting.
