Didcot Town stretched their unbeaten run to seven games with a comfortable victory over Cinderford in the FA Carlsberg Trophy first qualifying round at the npower Loop Meadow on Saturday.

The margin of victory would have been greater had the hosts taken all their chances.

Didcot went close to opening their account when Elliott Osborne-Ricketts’s shot deflected off Lance Williams, but was saved by Cinderford keeper Tom Betts.

And they went soon ahead. Brian Bowles’s header was kept out by Betts, only for James Clark to smash in from close-range.

Cinderford had the ball in the net, but the effort was ruled out for offside, while Lance Williams for Didcot had a goal chalked off for the same reason.

Lewis Sommers was denied by Marcos Belloli early in the second half, before Osborne-Ricketts’s shot was kept out by Betts.

Osborne-Ricketts made it 2-0 when he fired in after Morgan Williams’s shot was hacked off the goalline by Warren Archer straight into his path.

Clark was then clean through on 70 minutes, but, after beating Betts, the ball was cleared to safety.

However, when it was played back in to the area, Morgan Williams turned and fired home a brilliant third goal.

Didcot’s team player-coach Ian Concannon had two decent chances to score a fourth when he came off the bench, but both efforts were off-target.

Although Sommers headed home a late goal for the visitors, it was too little too late as Didcot booked their place in the next round.

Didcot Tn: Belloli, Elkins, Heapy, Osborne-Ricketts, Thomas, Henderson, Tappin, L Williams, Clark (Concannon 80), Bowles (Haysham 71), M Williams.
