FIVE Oxfordshire athletes helped the Southern Counties team finish third in the Veterans Inter-Area Challenge at Solihull.

Radley’s Alistair Duncan and Lyn Ahmet claimed individual victories in the men’s vet 50 400m and ladies’ vet 60 long jump respectively.

Also playing their part for Southern Counties were Sarah Davies (Oxford City) plus Radley’s Jackie Breslin and Rose Webb.

Duncan clocked 59.6secs for his 400m victory, while Ahmet took her long jump in 3.30m.

Davies finished second in the vet 35 1,500m in a time of 5.05.00, with Ahmet also second in the 400m (1.25.80) and the high jump (1.05).

Breslin was second in the vet 35 pole vault (1.70m) and third in both the long jump (3.50m) and triple jump (7.52).

Webb, 66, rolled back the years to compete as a vet 50, clocking 3.50.9 for the 800m – her best time since 1997.

She then ran 8.00.50 for the 1,500m, which was a 17-second personal best.
