Laura Watkins clai-med her eighth ladies’ club championship at Bicester by an amazing 44 shots.

Watkins recorded a gross score of 152 for two rounds, with Carly Bosher second miles back on 196.

The one-handicapper also won the nett championship, but only on countback from Kate Paton In contrast, the men’s championship was very tight, with 2010 champion Tim Horn taking his second title by just one shot from Paul Barrow, who was second on countback from Nathan Gillard.

Meanwhile, Joe Templer, from Henley, won the professionals’ top prize at the Bicester Pro-am with a one-under par round of 70.

A score of -15 won the team event for North Oxford pro Lee Jackson and members Dave Titcombe, Bruce Hyde-Line-kar plus Bicester’s Paul Barrow.

Gavin Soave won a thrilling three-hole play-off against Ian Bound to become Oxford City’s club champion.

Bound and Soave were deadlocked on 144, Soave having made a brave birdie at the treacherous water-guarded par-five 18th to tie scores.

At the last play-off hole – the par-five ninth – Soave was leading by one, and his glorious wedge left him a tricky six-footer for birdie.

Not to be outdone, Bound’s brilliant chip from 20 yards lipped out for what would have been an eagle.

Soave calmly rolled in the putt to win the play off by a stroke and lift the Hall Cup.

The Southfield Cup, for the handicap champion, was won by Ben Calnan, with a nett 131, following in the footsteps of his brother Tom who won it last year.

New member Petr Soldan came second with 138, one shot ahead of Paul Clinton.
