Oxford City’s Hannah England will face tough competition on her return from injury in Friday’s London Diamond League meeting.

The 25-year-old world 1,500m silver medallist has not competed since having her Achilles spiked during the Fanny Blankers-Koen Games on May 27.

But yesterday she was confirmed on the start list for the 1,500m at Crystal Palace alongside American trio Morgan Uceny, Shannon Rowbury and world champion Jennifer Simpson.

Also competing are 2007 and 2009 world champion Maryam Jamal (Bahrain) plus Britons Lisa Dobriskey and Laura Weightman, who will join England at London 2012.

England missed the Olympic Trials, won by Weightman, due to the injury, so Friday’s race will also be a chance to reassert herself as Britain’s No 1.

Former Radley athlete Hatti Archer competes in the 3,000m steeplechase on Saturday – her first race since missing out on Olympic selection.

Oxfordshire’s Lawrence Clarke will test himself in a strong 110m hurdles field that includes Chinese star Liu Xiang and world champion Jason Richardson.

Clarke clocked times of 13.14 and 13.29secs while racing in Madrid on Saturday, but both came in conditions beyond the legal wind limit of 2.0m/s.

WORLD 400m hurdles champion Dai Greene will captain Great Britain’s athletics team at the Olympics.

He is one of Team GB’s best hopes for gold on the track as he looks to add the Olympic title to his world, European and Commonwealth crowns.

The 26-year-old said: “It is an incredible privilege to be asked to captain the British athletics team at any time, but to be given the honour at a home Olympic Games is just incredible.”
