LAWRENCE Clarke provided the star turn as eight county records fell in the Oxfordshire Track & Field Championships at Horspath Road.

The 22-year-old Commonwealth Games 110m hurdles bronze medallist, from Christmas Common, near Watlington, tried his hand over the 100m flat with great success.

Clarke (Windsor Slough Eton and Hounslow) clocked 10.64secs to win the title, having run 10.65 in his heat.

Both times surpassed the previous mark of 10.76 set by Sebastian Tully-Middleton (Birchfield Harriers) last year.

Clarke said: “There was no race planned and I said to my coach I have never run the 100m, can I try it?

“I had no idea what I could do, all my training is based on the 110m hurdles.

“Nobody had any expectations of what I could do.

“I was very nervous, thinking what am I doing!”

This was Clarke’s first 100m race as a senior athlete, but he will focus on the sprint hurdles as he targets a place at London 2012.

Radley pair Emma O’Hara and Tara Kafke also broke county records on a dominant day for their club.

O’Hara, 17, smashed the under 20 women’s hammer mark with her winning throw of 52.39m, which is the second longest by an under 17 in Britain this year.

The previous Oxon record was 40.62 – set by Oxford City’s Emma Sutton in 2008.

Kafke set a new county mark in the senior women’s 400m, clocking 55.93 to surpass the 56.40 run by Elizabeth Braithwaite (Oxford University) in 2006.

O’Hara also won gold medals in the shot put (9.61m) and the discus (36.91) for a personal treble.

Kafke, 23, also landed a hat-trick, with golds in the 100m (12.09) and 200m (25.29).

Bicester AC member Ed Burgess set a new under 17 boys’ 100m hurdles mark, while Freddie Curtis, from Hardwick, achieved a record in the under 20 men’s javelin.

Burgess clocked 13.37 to beat the previous record of 13.73 set by Marcus Woddington (Oxford City) in 2010.

The 16-year-old also won the 400m hurdles in 1min 4.47secs and secured bronze medals in the 100m (11.61) and 200m (24.58).

Curtis (Marshall Milton Keynes) threw 56.64m to surpass the previous best of 54.46 set by David Odwar (Oxford City) in 1995.

Banbury’s Rebecca Scott broke the under 13 girls’ high jump record with her leap of 1.52m – putting her third in the national rankings for 2012.

Scott beat the mark of 1.45 set by Alex Cross (Radley) in 2010.

Oxford City’s Simi Fajemisin achieved a new under 15 girls’ 300m record, clocking 42.37 to break the 43.25 set by Chloe Craze (White Horse Harriers) in 2011.

Clara Blattler (Oxford University) won the senior women’s pole vault in 3.65m to beat her own record of 3.50 recorded last year.
