The Kassam Stadium – home of Oxford United – is in the frame to host Aviva Premiership rugby next season after emerging as a contender for London Welsh games.
The Exiles’ home ground is unlikely to meet the strict criteria in the top flight, so they will have to ground-share if they win promotion from the Championship.
The Kassam, which has staged European club rugby finals in the past, is one of four candidates in the running.
The stadium has been given a chance to push its case after London Welsh decided to move their ‘home’ leg of the play-off final against Cornish Pirates to Oxford.
U’s chairman Kelvin Thomas said: “I know that there have been some discussions and we’ve spoken to the rugby club as well. But we will wait and see how it plays out.”
Sky TV will screen the second leg live on Wednesday, May 30.
