RUGBY-MAD girls from Cherwell School, Oxford, step out on Twickenham’s hallowed turf today to play in a national tag tournament.

The under 13s are among eight teams from around England who will be in action before and at half-time as the annual Army v Navy match takes place.

The Oxfordshire champions booked their place at Twickenham as the winners of the southern regional finals at Newbury.

And they did it in dramatic fashion, beating Testbourne School, from Whitchurch, Hampshire, 7-6 with a ‘golden’ try after normal time and two periods of extra time had failed to separate the teams.

Coach Rheanna Hesp said: “The girls are thrilled to have the opportunity to play at Twickenham Stadium in front of a huge crowd.

“The squad should be very proud of winning both the county and regional tournaments, and I know they are going to absolutely love being involved in the national showcase event.”

As part of their big day, the Cherwell girls will warm up with a skills session led by England women’s players. and be treated to a tour of the World Rugby Museum.
