Cholsey's Jon Merrifield captured the men’s 55’s singles title at the second Oxfordshire Veterans’ Tournament at Virgin Active, the Oxfordshire Health & Racquets Club.
Merrifield took the honours with victory over Blewbury’s Peter Buck, his success now making him top 30 ranked in Britain.
Abingdon’s Jeremy Wood finished runner-up to reigning champion Mark Rowe, from Hereford, in the 45’s singles final.
Fernando Torres (David Lloyd Oxford) took the consolation event.
Woodstock Bowls & Tennis Club’s Bob Coomber and Richard Corfield were the men’s 60’s doubles winners.
Home success for Virgin Active came from Elena Nomerotskaia, who partnered the experienced Adrian Roberts to beat Maidenhead’s Mike Bottomley and Ann Chance to win the mixed doubles.
