The U’s, who fielded four triallists, conceded four goals in nine first-half minutes to trail 4-0 at half-time.
They then conceded a fifth just 30 seconds into the second period to leave them a mountain to climb.
However, they kept going and Tyrone Marsh pulled one back and Nathaniel Redwood made the scoreline more respectable late on.
