OXFORD City earned a team bronze medal in the British Masters Cross Country Championships at Bath University.

City’s vet 55-64 team of Richard Grant, Stewart Thorp and Roy Treadwell finished third, but were just one second behind silver medallists Swindon Harriers.

Grant clocked 32mins 15secs for 86th place overall on the 8km course, with Thorp recording 32.20 for 87th and Treadwell 32.47 for 93rd.

Thorp also missed out on a vet 60 individual medal, finishing fourth in the category, ten seconds adrift of third.

City’s Julian Richardson finished 15th overall and sixth in the vet 40 section in a time of 28.15.

Clubmate Steve Male dropped out due to flu after one lap when well-placed, which meant City could not field a complete vet 45-54 team.

Oxford’s John Atyeo finished 43rd overall and 13th vet 45 in 29.34, while clubmate Heine Van Zyl was 71st and 15th vet 50 in 31.33.

  • STEVE Naylor helped his first-claim club Bedford & County to sixth place in the Southern 12-Stage Relay Championships at Milton Keynes.

Naylor, from Woodstock, ran the 4.86-mile fifth leg in 24mins 3secs, which was the second fastest for the stage and 12th quickest on the day.

  • EYNSHAM Road Runner Bob Storey finished second in the Water of Life Half Marathon at Bisham Abbey.

Storey, who was the first veteran home, completed the 13.1-mile course in 1hr 21mins 24secs, but was more than four minutes behind winner Guy Bowles (Datchet Dashers).

  • WITNEY Road Runner Elysia Ridley maintained her good form to finish as the sixth lady home in the Fleet Half Marathon.

A week after helping Wales to team bronze in the Home Countries Cross Country International, Ridley shone on with a best time of 1hr 22mins 8secs for 82nd place overall.

Woodstock Harrier and RAF athlete Steve Frear finished 19th in 1.13.49.
