WITNEY climbed to sixth in South West 1 East with a 43-18 home victory over Marlow featuring seven tries.

On nine minutes, prop Jamie Burke finished off a brilliant run by lock Joe Rowles to cross for Witney’s first try, fly half Henry Lamb converting.

Marlow hit back with a try from Mike Rauchwerger, but scrum half Gareth Campbell set up full back Phil Gouldie’s first, converted by Lamb.

Gouldie added his second after another Rowles run, while Marlow’s Miles Noble slotted a penalty.

It was 24-8 at half-time after Witney's Gareth Campbell scampered over.

Centre Carl Strutt finished off try No 5, Lamb converting before Marlow’s Rauchwerger bagged his second score, which Noble converted.

Captain and No 8 Jez Hicks picked up from the base of a scrum to crash over, then Noble slotted a second penalty.

Witney closed it out with a try from Carl Campbell.

Grove’s promotion hopes were ended by a 34-24 home defeat to Southern Counties North leaders Beaconsfield.

Home captain Ben Nicholl returned following a broken leg, but three tries, two conversions and a penalty put Beaconsfield 22-0 up at the break.

Two tries from wing Harry Carr and one apiece from No 8 Nicholl and scrum half Owen Gustafson, plus two Roger Sevier conversions, earned Grove a bonus point.

Grove trailed just 27-19 at one point, but Beaconsfield added two second half tries and a conversion for a deserved win.

Wheatley edged to 8-5 victory over Farnham Royal in the BB&O Championship, having previously lost 48-0 to them.

They took the lead with a pushover try from No 8 Jason Wilson.

Farnham levelled with a try, but fly half Jason Laman’s second-half penalty won it.
