HARWELL’S Twickenham dreams were dashed by a 39-13 home defeat to Brockworth in the quarter-finals.

Gloucestershire Division 1 side Brockworth proved too strong for the hosts and now progress to the last four as South West champions.

Cheered on by a huge travelling contingent, the visitors took an early lead with a try from flanker Bobby Hemmings.

Matt Masters’s conversion and long-range penalty saw Harwell 10-0 behind before they had any real possession.

A try from Joe Pigott got Harwell into the game, but full back Masters slotted another penalty.

Brockworth added tries from fly half Sam Burford and Hemmings, with Masters converting both and a further penalty.

It got worse for the hosts, losing winger Gavin Wilde, and fly-half Andy Lee to an injury and illness respectively.

Brockworth scored their fourth try through centre Andy Mitchell.

A much-improved performance in the final half-hour gave Harwell some consolation.

Dave Beaven kicked a penalty to make it 33-8, with Masters landing another two.

But Harwell managed a late try for Ian Empson, set up by Joe Pigott.
