ASA Hall admitted he was already celebrating a second goal on Saturday when Rotherham United goalkeeper Rhys Taylor made a wonder save.

The midfielder, who scored the decisive goal for Oxford United in the 2-1 win, showed great skill on the hour-mark to head Adam Chapman’s cross towards the far corner.

Hall was not alone in thinking he had made it 3-0, but Taylor somehow leapt at full stretch to turn the ball round the post.

“It was a fantastic save,” Hall said.

“The ball from Chappy was brilliant and I got a great contact on it – the ball was heading for the corner and I don’t know how he saved it.

“I think everyone was up on their feet (celebrating) as well, it was unlucky but one will do.”

The strike which did fly in on 52 minutes continued the 25-year-old’s hot streak in front of goal.

Hall had scored just once this season by the end of last month, but now has three goals in his last four games.

Taylor had little chance in keeping out the superbly struck first-time shot, which the former Birmingham City trainee ranked among his best.

He said: “The ball back was brilliant and they’re easy to hit when they come at you like that, so to see it go in the back of the net was great.

“I don’t think I’ve scored a better goal for Oxford, it was a nice one and great to get a winner.

“We made it difficult at the end but we dug in, defended well and got the three points – it’s a big high for everyone.”
