Hawks had lock James Winterbottom and wing Tom Haynes yellow-carded, while Andrew McClintock saw yellow for Southend.
Tries from Winterbottom, centre Danny Wells, flanker Matt Payne and No 8 Will Woodward, plus fly half James Comben’s three conversions and two penalties sealed the spoils.
