Round-up

TIM Muller’s try double helped Witney to a 36-27 home victory over Cheltenham in South West 1 East.

Full back Phil Gouldie ran in Witney’s opening try on nine minutes, fly half Henry Lamb converting.

Cheltenham replied with a penalty, but Witney prop Jamie Burke sped over and Lamb added a penalty.

A penalty and a converted try made it 15-13 at the break.

The visitors ran in two more converted tries, while yellow cards were shown to Burke, flanker Muller and a Cheltenham lock.

But tries from Muller (2) and hooker Russell Todd, all converted by Lamb, sealed Witney’s win.

Alchester continued their good form with a 19-8 victory over Aylesbury in Southern Counties North.

Four penalties from centre Tom Miles gave Alchester, who had hooker Garrick Kimber sin-binned in the first half, the edge.

Aylesbury managed a penalty and a try, but Alchester sealed victory when flanker Tom Isles was driven over by lock Andy Harbottle, Miles converting.

Grove saw their promotion hopes all but ended by a 57-18 defeat at Milton Keynes.

The visitors were hit by injuries beforehand and lost centres Dave Johnson and Dave Maryon to a bad dead leg and a sprained ankle respectively.

Flanker Guy Nicholl impressed with two tries and wing Gareth Hudson also scored, with fly half Roger Sevier adding a penalty.

Oxford University suffered a late 21-15 defeat to Trinity College Dublin at Iffley Road.

Derek Asbun and Sean Morris scored the Dark Blues’ tries, with Harry Guinness kicking a conversion and a penalty.
