OXFORD United captain Jake Wright returns to Bradford City tomorrow older and wiser after admitting emotions got the better of him during last season’s clash After a goalless first half, the U’s collapsed after the break at Valley Parade en route to a 5-0 defeat in October 2010.

Wright was sent off for his part in a brawl sparked by a late challenge from teammate Mark Creighton, who was also dismissed.

The 25-year-old grimaces at the memory.

“I’m looking forward to going back, just because I know it can’t be any worse than last time, both personally and for the team,” he said.

“Personally it was my worst half, although I only played 25 minutes. It can’t get much worse than losing two men and conceding five goals.”

The centre-back puts it down to coming up against Bradford, where he was released in 2006 after making just one substitute appearance.

“I was a bit too pumped up for it,” he said.

“I got myself sent off when I shouldn’t have done and it was a good learning curve for me.

“I just need to treat every game the same, whereas last season I was up for it a little bit more because it felt like I had something to prove.

“I got released by Bradford, but thinking about it, the manager there wasn’t the one who released me, a lot have come and gone since I left.

“It’s nothing to do with me now, I’ve played them twice since and done well.

“As long as the team gets a good result I’m not really bothered.”

Wright was pleased to be back in the U’s starting line-up in Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at Shrewsbury Town.

He had missed two games after sufferring a recurrence of an old back injury, which it was feared would keep him on the sidelines for several weeks.

But the swift treatment the defender received helped a speedy recovery.

He said: “I quickly realised I’d be back quite fast, we said at first I’d be out for two weeks at best, so it was great to be back in ten days.”
