Peter Leven was delighted to beat Dagenham on Tuesday having earlier that day heard the news that his beloved Rangers had gone into administration.

Leven came through the ranks at Ibrox, and says that he found the announcement hard to take.

“It was a bad day for me on Tuesday with Rangers,” he said.

“I grew up 100 yards from the stadium and it’s a club I love.

“I have got family, friends and a lot of people and staff there that I still keep in contact with.

“It’s a worrying time for one of the biggest clubs in Britain if not the world.”

He added: “I don’t know the ins and outs of where the money comes from.

“But their away support it’s unbelievable – they have a record for the best travelling support in the world for a Champions League game and the UEFA Cup final.

“When I was there they were spending crazy money on Tore-Andre Flo and players like that who were on £40-50,000 a week and you just assumed they had it because of the fan base and stuff, but obviously not.

“It’s a big blow.”
