RILEY C edged out House Club B after a play-off in round one of the Gentworks Oxford & District League’s Buildbase Plate.
With the all-Division 2 clash tied at 3-3, Riley’s Ed Downey and House’s Keith Philpott were drawn out of that – and Downey kept his nerve to win 72-63.
The first two closely-contested frames went to House Club’s Mike Augar before Riley’s Anthony Stopp eased past Paul Larkins 2-0.
Downey and Philpott drew their clash before returning for the play-off.
Division 3’s Oxford Union, received an eight-points-per-frame start from Division 2 opponents Cowley Conservative Club B, who also triumphed 4-3.
After Neil Kirby won his two frames for Cowley, Gwilym Enstone (Oxford Union) and Brian Mabbutt shared their contest Richard Walters (Oxford Union) won the last two frames to set up a play-off where Kirby kept his cool against Enstone 47-26.
