Oxford University began their 2012 fixtures with a 29-10 defeat of the RAF at Iffley Road, captain John Carter scoring the try of the match.
The airmen went ahead with a penalty from Phil Thomas, but tries from prop Lewis Anderson and left wing Matt Janney, who converted his own effort, saw the Dark Blues go clear.
The students then produced a purple patch that brought a try for full back Jon Hudson.
Carter’s magic moment saw him pick up the ball on halfway and burst through a tackle to storm in under the posts. Janney converted.
After making a number of half-time changes, the Dark Blues added a try from right wing JJ Dargan, the RAF replying with a late converted try from Nick Kibble.
* NORTH Midlands have included Oxford University scrum half Sam Egerton in their squad for their opening National Under 20 Championship match against Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire at Moseley.
* OXFORD University’s development squad saw off Oxfordshire Under 20s 38-0 in a friendly at Iffley Road.
Wing Sam Wareham (2), lock Doug Sexton, flanker Rich Russell, No 8 Tom Reeson-Price and fly half Matt Janney scored their tries, with Janney converting four.
