White Horse Harrier Paul Jegou has retained his senior men’s title in the Wessex Cross Country League.

Jegou cannot be overhauled in the standings after triumphing in round three at Ham Hill, Stoke sub-Hamdon, Somerset.

The 37-year-old crossed the line for first in 37mins 33secs.

l NIGEL Marley finished second in the Gloucester Marathon.

The Bicester-based Coventry Godiva athlete clocked 2hrs 42mins 44secs, which put him a minute behind winner Hussein Ahmed-Aly.

Marley was in the leading group until 23 miles before Ahmed-Aly made a break, but finished more than a minute ahead of Stephen Price.

Abingdon Ambler Paul Fernandez finished fourth in the Gloucester 50K, which was held as part of the same event.

Fernandez clocked 3.11.20, which is inside the selection time needed to represent England at the IAU 50K World Trophy in Italy this October.

Woodstock Harrier Paul Brackett was first vet 50 home in the 50k race.

Brackett, who finished 16th overall in 4hrs 13mins 59secs, said: “I was delighted. It was my first proper road-race win.”
