Jon-Paul Pittman is relishing his good run of form in front of goal – and says the secret of his success is to have belief in yourself.

Pittman has scored in three of the previous four games for United, and was on the mark once again with the opening goal against Hereford.

The striker has looked a totally different player since his return to the U’s fold, after spending the majority of the first half of the season on loan at Crawley.

But with others around him struggling to find the net, Pittman is showing them the way.

“Three goals in four games – I’m happy with that,” he said. “I will always back myself as a goalscorer and I want to keep making sure I am chipping in with the goals.”

Pittman’s strike against Hereford was a great effort from 25 yards, after he cut in from the right flank.

“That’s my role,” he said. “If I am playing out on the wide right and I get the chance to cut inside and if you get an opportunity to hit it, then you do.

“I’m glad it opened up for me, and I have to stay positive and keep doing that.

“I thought one chance in the second half was probably going in as well, but the keeper made a good save and kept it out.”

He added: “Although we haven’t picked up as many points as we would have liked at home in the last two games, we have to stay positive and keep going.

“Games come thick and fast and the league table can change very quickly.”
