United defender Ben Purkiss is set to join npower League Two rivals Hereford United after being released from his contract.
The 27-year-old right back joined from York shortly after appearing for them against the U’s in the Blue Square Premier play-off final in 2010.
He made 22 starts during his first season, but had not featured in the first-team squad this term, making 12 starts at Darlington on loan earlier in the campaign.
Purkiss will link up with former U’s midfielder Simon Clist, who completed a permanent move to Edgar Street earlier this month.
Meanwhile, Tom Craddock was on the scoresheet as United drew 1-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Championship side Coventry City on Tuesday.
