Yate Tn 3 (Groves 21, Plummer 25, 42) Didcot Tn 4 (Faulkner 11, Davis 13, Odhiambo 49, 54)

ANACLET Odhiambo’s second-half double gave Didcot Town victory in a remarkable Division 1 South & West clash atin-form Yate Town.

Odhiambo was involved in the move that led up to Didcot opening the scoring after 11 minutes when he was felled a outside the penalty area, and James Faulkner glanced home Kevin Halliday’s free-kick.

Yate had not recovered when Didcot doubled the lead. The hosts failed to clear their lines, and Steve Davis smashed a shot into the top corner from 30 yards.

Paul Robinson and Faulkner drew saves from Josh Dempsey as the visitors looked to add to the lead. However, a nightmare period followed where the advantage was wiped out and Faulkner limped off injured. Tom Warren’s first cross was palmed by keeper Jon Beames into the path of Matt Groves who made no mistake from the edge of the area. And within a few minutes, Warren was free again on the right, slotting Neikell Plummer through to equalise.

Simieon Howell, on as a substitute for Faulkner, drilled in a low shot that was well tipped round a post by Dempsey.

But three minutes before half-time, Didcot fell behind.

The ball should have been cleared after Beames parried Russ Church’s shot, but as Didcot dithered, Plummer took possession to fire past Beames.

However, four minutes into the second half, it was the turn of Yate’s defence to part as Robinson’s pass put the nippy Odhiambo through and a delicate chip over the onrushing Dempsey did the rest.

Groves rattled the Didcot crossbar from 25 yards, and Robinson tested Dempsey once more before the Railwaymen regained the lead. Robinson worked himself into space on the right, before a precise pass picked out Odhiambo in the middle, and he finished clinically, Didcot went on to dominate he remainder of the contest, with Sam Elkins, Odhiambo and Howell all spurning opportunities to put the game away, while as the same time the visitors’ defence shut Yate out.
