Two Oxford trainers face a preliminary investigation after their runners showed improved performances on Saturday.

The Bob Hannan-trained Price Tag opened at 5-2 before going off at 4-6 favourite when trotting up in an A8 grade, winning by four lengths and posting 27.43 on going rated at +30.

Trainer Nick Carter, who is attached to both Oxford and Henlow, saw his Swift Primrose leave her rivals in the shade when coming home 113/4 lengths to the good in the A6, posting 27.05 and finding 91 spots on her previous best here.

There was no unusual betting on the race.

The stewards will consider both cases before deciding what action to take.

Meanwhile, the stewards have decided to take no further action over the recent improved performance of Chris Stringer’s Primo Sally.

However, whatever action the local stewards take, the Greyhound Board of Great Britain can overrule or accept the findings.

It appears to be a match made in heaven as the Richard Yeates trained Oaks classic winner Freedom Emma has been confirmed in whelp to Derby winner Westmead Hawk.

Yeates said: “ The pups are due in the middle of next month.”

The Nick Colton-trained Jolly Gino, seen as a replacement by owners Mel Shorter and Shane Lee for the great Jolly Poacher, emphasised his claims with a 27.06 victory in Saturday’s A1.

However, the news on Gymcrack winner Tyrannus Rex is not so good as injury may force him into retirement.

Open races which proved so successful on Thursday nights will take a break until the RD Racing Trafalgar Cup heats in February.

With no trials on Monday, the next scheduled date for the normal Monday session is January 9.

Former Oxford owner Kathy Russek whose contributions to charity over the years deserve recognition, has increased her retired greyhounds to four after taking in Rula Bula from Terry Atkins.
