COWLEY Conservative Club A edged out New Club 4-3 in a thrilling Gentworks Atox Cup round one clash.
Arthur Coakley (+40) won his two games 75-50 and 75-68 against New Club’s Dave White (+20).
The second two were shared by Cowley’s Dick Hashman and Alan Mander.
Keith Pearce (+20) lost his games against New Club’s Allan King (scr), but scored enough points for Cowley to go through 409-385 on aggregate.
Fieldside also progressed to the second round, with a 4-3 success over Riley A, thanks to their competitive scoring, even when losing.
Bob Chivers started the ball rolling for Fieldside, taking both his games against Gary Bough, 75-45 and 75-23.
Riley A’s Lewis Moss then reversed the scores, winning 75-70 and 75-65, against Paul Robinson.
Fieldside’s Simon Aries won his first game 75-40, but Malcolm Bough (Riley) took the last frame 75-65 to send the calculations into overtime.
The final aggregate score saw Fieldside win 425-333.
