Didcot Town boss Dave Mudge says there is more to come from James Faulkner after the striker scored on his debut in the 5-1 win against Taunton Town in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West.

The former Oxford City frontman, who signed last Friday from Bedford Town, came on as second-half substitute against Taunton Town and, with fellow sub Alex Stanley, helped inspire the Railwaymen to an amazing 5-1 win after they trailed at the break.

Mudge said: “He (Faulkner) still has a lot of work to do, but he has a bit of quality that we have been looking for.”

Meanwhile, Mudge has sig-ned defender Mick Lyskov after he was released from the Glenn Hoddle Academy.

However Lyskov, 18, who was at Reading FC’s academy before playing at Yeovil, will be unavailable for the Division 1 South & West Boxing Day trip to Abingdon United.

Mudge added: “I watched him play when he was maybe 15 or 16 years old. I spoke to him to see how things were going and was happy to come here.

“He’s one for the future. He can play at centre back or right back and has good character.”

Mudge said it was important they were fully prepared.

“They are expecting a big crowd at Abingdon, but we have to forget about that and make sure that we approach it the right way,” added Mudge.

Didcot will be without the suspended defensive duo of Lee Henderson and Sam Elkins, while Jon Beames takes over in goal from Dean Santangelo (unavailable).

Abingdon will be without Jack Smith (banned).

Their boss Richie Bourne said: “We’re full of confidence.

“The challenge is to finish the year on a real high, having picked up two wins and a draw from our last three games.

“We’re all looking forward to the game, with local bragging rights at stake.”

North Leigh face a trip to third-placed Thatcham Town.
