Radetsky March gave Mark Bradstock’s Letcombe Bassett stables, near Wantage a boost ahead of Carruthers’ crack at the Welsh National on Tuesday with victory at Ffos Las yesterday.
The eight-year-old, a 10-1 chance, made all the running in the handicap hurdle over two miles and four furlongs under Mattie Batchelor to beat Blazing Buck by six lengths.
Paul Webber, who trains at Mollington, near Banbury, struck at Ludlow with 12-1 shot Lady Kathleen.
The four-year-old, ridden by Wayne Hutchinson, fought back courageously from a blunder at the second-last flight to wrest the spoils from Brave Alliance by three-quarters of a length in a mares’ novices’ hurdle over two miles and five furlongs.
