CHINNOR are still waiting to learn whether they can challenge the result of Saturday’s abandoned match at promotion rivals Redingensians.

The National 3 South West clash was called off after 58 minutes following long delays surrounding the serious leg injury suffered by Chinnor wing Ken Prinsloo.

At the time, Chinnor were willing for the match to be moved to another pitch, but their hosts did not agree to this.

Chinnor have asked the South West Competitions Sub-Committee if the result can stand as they felt the rules over injury abandonments were unclear, but await the result of their inquiry.

Mike Gee, the sub-committee’s secretary, said: “At the moment, it is in the hands of the league secretary, who is investigating it.”

Should the result stand, Chinnor No 8 Liam Gilbert will have scored an impressive ten tries in 13 matches.

The abandonment meant Bournemouth retook top spot going into the new year and are now five points clear of Chinnor in second.

Bournemouth director of rugby David Dunn said: “I feel that we deserve to win the league – I felt that we deserved to be promoted at the end of last season – but we’ve just got to take each week as it comes.”
