Former Oxfordshire seamer Jack Brooks has been named in the England Lions squad for next month’s tour to Bangladesh.

The 27-year-old Northants star is in a 16-man party, captained by Nottinghamshire batsman James Taylor, to play in a five-match one-day series and two Twenty20s against Bangladesh A.

Brooks, who came through the ranks at Tiddington and then Oxford, was selected after being part of the England Performance Programme, which has seen him train at Loughborough and in South Africa.

ECB performance director David Parsons said: “We have selected a young squad which is in line with our strategy of looking ahead to the 2015 ICC World Cup and identifying and working with players who may be able to play a role for England.

“These players have worked extremely hard over the last couple of months with a strong focus on limited-overs cricket.

“This tour presents a good opportunity for these players to continue to develop their skills in sub-continent conditions on what will no doubt be a challenging tour of Bangladesh as well as push for selection for future England squads.”
