ANDY Benwell kept his nerve as Green Road beat Riley C 4-2 in round one of the Gentworks Oxford & District League’s Buildbase Cup.

In this all-second division tie, Ray Benwell took the first two frames for Green Road, against Hasan Ali of Riley.

Ed Downey did likewise for Riley in the next two frames.

Benwell made it 3-2 for Green Road with a respotted black and then finished the job 49-41 in a close final frame.

Witney D, from Division 4 received an eight points per frame start from their Division 3 opponents Cowley Workers.

The handicap worked out as the teams drew 3-3.

Steve Blackman won twice for Witney, Lee McAllister replying in kind for Cowley.

After drawing names from a hat for the tie-break, Cowley’s Darren Murray beat Joe Timms to seal the win.

Gavin Wright made an excellent 60-break as Witney A defeated their B team 4-2, despite conceding an eight-point handicap.

Wright had to halve his frames with the B team’s Clive Burnet.

The next two frames were also shared, before Paul Chester showed his experience in winning the last two to see the A team home.

Division 4 team Eynsham D, won 5-1 after receiving a 16 points per frame start from their Division 2 opponents Cowley Conservative Club B.
