Oxford City wasted the opportunity to go back to the top of the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division table when they were held to an uninspiring goalless draw at home by bottom club Cirencester Town on Saturday.
Keeper Keith McCloughlin prevented City going behind in the first half, when he pulled off an excellent save to deny James Mortimer-Jones.
Cirencester also went close when Ben Reardon’s free-kick came back off the defensive wall to Jared Wilson, who put a good chance wide.
From one of the few opportunities that came City’s way, Jack Ashton’s volley was tipped over by keeper Kevin Sawyer for a corner.
In the second half, skipper Wayne Blossom looked like putting City ahead, but his goalbound header was cleared off the line by James Reid.
At the other end, McCloughlin cleared the danger by punching the ball clear, as the game petered out into a draw.
Oxford City: a draw.
